A day in Cairns

Cairns was similar to Brisbane it seemed. There were alot of backpackers making their way through here, and the streets had similar shops and restaurants. The YHA was different from the others we stayed at in that it all seemed to be set up for the outside. We visited a Butterfly garden and the Barren Falls on one day while in Cairns. It was so cool to walk into this building with thousands of butterflies flying around us. A few of them even landed on my head a couple of times, due to the flowers that I would stick into my hair. There was this one caterpillar called Hercules which was insanely large, I have never seen one before in my life. Though it was not the prettiest thing to look at, it did turn into a beautiful butterfly. We then went on a sky rail where we were brought along the top of a rain forest. It was cool to get a birds eye view of the forest, looking at all the different shades of green that made it up. At one stop on the sky rail we had an amazing view of the Barren Falls, it was so beautiful. We then visited a native Aboriginal park where we were taught the way which they believed the world came to be as it is. We were also shown the proper ways of throwing a boomerang, which is alot harder than it appears, as well as throwing a spear. We also watched them play the didgeridoo and dance, celebrating the emu during one dance. Devin and I even got to go on stage and try to dance along. At one point I also tried to play the didgeridoo, but it was really hard to do. You have to put your lips together, use your tongue, and diaphragm all at the same time, it was way to hard for me to accomplish. It was a fun and enjoyable day.
