Brisbane and Fraser Island

Landing in Brisbane made me feel like I was here even more because it is much warmer and more tropical. On the way to the Koala Sanctuary I noticed that there were many houses with what appeared to be damaged belongings from the flood outside of their homes. In the actual sanctuary they were doing construction at the center because of damage from the floods as well. Aside from that, most of the flood waters have dried up and everything seemed to be back to normal, or getting there at least. Our ride to Fraser island was probably my favorite part of the trip so far. I got to ride in the 4-wheel drive jeep style truck with five other students, in which we all got the real experience! We stopped at a beach for lunch and people got a chance to swim in the Pacific ocean for their first time. The water was very warm, and quite clear! We took a ferry over to Fraser island and drove along the beach for miles before entering the woods where it got a little bumpy. We got to see a wild Dingo as it crossed the road in front of the other bus, which was quite cool. We stopped at a small lake to take a break and go swimming, but the water there was actually colder than the ocean. We continued on to central station where we took a 45 minute hike or so through the rainforest to learn a little bit about the types of plants that can grow on the sand island. After that we arrived at our resort, washed off the sand and went to our "family dinner". Best meal so far! It was an all-you-can-eat buffet, Mediterranean food, and custard-butterscotch cake for desert. Our tours guide Darren told us some funny stories, then we went to the Beach bar to write all of our names on the walls inside, chased some cane toads around (for picture purposes) on the way back to our room for bed!
